(236–246) In a lot of lutheran churches of the 17th century the pulpit is being hold by a figure: Moses. What is the role of Moses in this context? And does it matter, that Moses also holds the two tables of the Decalogue in his hands and shows them to the parish? The author argues, that this composition must have had real consequences for living together in the community, especially in the countries and cities, which followed the Reform. Last but not least the author takes a look upon the importance of the historical Moses-Pulpit for the practice of praying today. In this article (paper) three less well-known texts illustrate how his theology still challenges church practice and therefore might encourage a worthwile debate. (260–271) Gerhard Kittel’s Defense, composed in prison after WW II, sheds light on the liaison between academic theology and politics in the Third Reich. The apologia of the Tübingen New Testament scholar documents the tragedy of one of 20th century’s most prominent theologians, who combined “Christian” antisemitism with openly racist theories. After 1945, sparing no effort for his “rehabilitation”, he tried to make use of his record of having been friendly towards Jewish individuals, especially to Christians of Jewish descent during the Nazi era.
