Martin Luther thought and acted as an apocalypticist. The apocalyptic ideas were very serious to him and to the other reformers and they were not a tribute to the lower    classes of people. Indeed he formed the figure of Antichrist to a basic idea leaded by criteria, so that he didn’t fight against a personally Antichrist but against antichristian forces.
