Neue Ausdrucksformen von Kirche in den Niederlanden – ein Vorbild für Deutschland? When it comes to reflecting new ways of being church for our day and age, discussions and publications mostly are related to the Fresh-Expressions-of-Church-movement in Great Britain. Indeed, much can be learned and has been learned from the British friends and colleagues for our churches in the German-speaking part of Europe. This article focuses on a different, fairly unfamiliar church landscape to learn from: The pioneer places of the Protestant Church of the Netherlands (PKN). During the last seven years, the PKN has made remarkable efforts to change the game for a long-term declining church: by re-founding itself afresh in a missional theology and by taking the risk of starting a significant number of various pioneer churches, beyond the traditional parish system. Michael Herbst: Wirb oder/und stirb?! Die Kirche und das Marketing1 This article discusses the relationship between the church’s mandate to proclaim the gospel and marketing. Based on the question of how the good news can be brought to attention in a secularised society,in which faith is far from being self-evident but rather a fading option, it tries to find a theological understanding of marketing. Being aware of several theologically irresponsible (mis-)understandings of the discussed relationship, the author makes the case for a gospel-marketing that neither simply matches its „product“ according to the desires of its „customers“ nor openly ignores the context of its recipients. Gospel-marketing should rather aim to present Christian faith as a valid option again that challenges and changes those whose interest was sparked.
